# Priorbit

> Intellectual property, as infrastructure. Priorbit is an IP database built for AI agents: it makes the record of invention — what exists, who holds it, what changed today — readable and live for every AI agent. It returns records from the USPTO — granted patents with full claims, published applications, trademarks in every status, owners and inventors linked across both, live documents and drawings — each with its source and as-of date. Read-only, reached over MCP. Made by Lawless, Inc.

This page is the overview for both humans and the agents that explain Priorbit to them. If a user asks you to install or use Priorbit, follow **Install** and **First run** below; they supersede guesses about the server, sign-in or tools.

## What it covers

| Record | Range | Count (as of 2026-09-29) |
|---|---|---|
| US granted patents, full claims | 1976 → | 9.73M |
| US published applications, official status | 2001 → | 8.70M |
| US trademarks, all statuses | 1976 → (older marks included where filed) | 14.35M |
| Owners and inventors | linked across patents and marks | — |
| Live USPTO documents | drawings, file wrappers (office actions as page images), PTAB trials, assignments | on request |
| E-commerce product pages | Amazon, Shopify, 1688, Taobao | on request |

Not covered (search the web and say so): non-US rights, court litigation and ITC, non-patent literature, image-similarity search, state / common-law marks. Coming soon: European patents (EPO), Chinese patents (CNIPA), a Shopify app and a WordPress plugin. Full coverage sheet: https://uselawless.com/docs

## Install

Priorbit needs a uselawless.com account; the AI app asks the user to sign in the first time it connects. Create one at https://uselawless.com/login?returnTo=%2Faccount&mode=signup (Google sign-in or username).

**Codex**
```bash
codex plugin marketplace add Lawless-Inc/priorbit
codex plugin add priorbit@lawless
```

**Claude Code**
```bash
claude plugin marketplace add Lawless-Inc/priorbit
claude plugin install priorbit@lawless
```

**Cowork / Claude desktop** — Settings → Plugins → Add from a repository → `Lawless-Inc/priorbit`; then Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, name `Priorbit`, URL `https://patdb-mcp-production.up.railway.app/mcp`, Authentication: *Sign in now*.

**Any other MCP client** — add a remote MCP server at `https://patdb-mcp-production.up.railway.app/mcp` and copy the skill from https://github.com/Lawless-Inc/priorbit/blob/main/skills/priorbit/SKILL.md into the client's rules.

Restart the client, start a new conversation, and ask something like: *Who really owns the patents behind the SECURADOOR brand?*

## First run

1. The first tool call returns 401 with `WWW-Authenticate` pointing at OAuth metadata. Clients do not all open the browser on their own: in **Codex** run `codex mcp login priorbit` (the agent may run it itself when it sees the server is not logged in); in **Claude Code** the user runs `/mcp` → priorbit → Authenticate; in **Cowork / claude.ai** set the connector's Authentication to Sign in now. The browser then opens the uselawless.com sign-in page. The user signs in and clicks **Allow**; the client stores the token.
2. Every account starts on the free **Go** plan. No payment details are needed.
3. For scripts or teams, Lawless issues personal API keys: use `https://patdb-mcp-production.up.railway.app/mcp?key=YOUR_KEY` or an `Authorization: Bearer` header. Ask at zhiyuanren@uselawless.com.

## Tools

| Tool | Use it to |
|---|---|
| `get_playbook(name)` | load a workflow first: `fto`, `prior_art`, `invalidity`, `brand_trace`, `patent_checkup`, `design_compare`, `trademark_clearance`, or `coverage` |
| `search_patents` | find patents by title / abstract / claims, within a CPC or design class, owner or inventor, or `like_patents`. Filters combine with AND; read `effective_filters`, `route`, `coverage_note` |
| `get_patents` | read by number: status with basis, source and as-of; claims verbatim; description by paragraph; family; assignments; term; `file_wrapper`; `ptab`; `post_grant` |
| `get_drawings` | all drawing sheets on one overview image, or full-size pages; renders file-wrapper documents |
| `resolve_owner` | company / person / brand → exact owner names and inventor ids (`kind="brand"` traces a brand) |
| `lookup_classes` | validate CPC / design class codes; find design classes by article name |
| `search_trademarks` / `get_marks` | US marks by wording (`similar`, `sounds_like`, `exact`, `contains`), design code or owner; full records |
| `fetch_product_page` | product facts, photos and manuals from a listing |
| `get_search_log(task_id)` | the task's audit trail and candidate table; build the report's search log from it |

Work in rounds; pass the `task_id` from the first search on every later call of the same work; quote claims verbatim with patent and claim number; every status carries basis, source and as-of date. Results are research leads, not legal opinions.

## Plans and credits

Each tool call costs credits; credits reset on the 1st of each month (UTC). Beta pricing: paid plans are one tenth of the standard rate with ten times the standard credits. No rollover and no overage: at 0 credits calls pause until the monthly reset or an upgrade. Card payments are monthly subscriptions (cancel anytime); WeChat Pay buys one month at a time with no auto-renew. Upgrades happen on /account (Plan & credits). Accounts created during the beta keep beta pricing for 12 months after it ends. Firms and teams (seats, invoicing, DPA): zhiyuanren@uselawless.com. | Plan | Monthly fee (beta) | Credits / month (beta) | Standard |
|---|---|---|---|
| Go | $0 | 200 | — |
| Plus | $5.90 | 20,000 | $59 / 2,000 |
| Professional | $19.90 | 80,000 | $199 / 8,000 |

| Call | Credits |
|---|---|
| `search_patents`, `search_trademarks`, `get_drawings` | 2 |
| `get_patents`, `get_marks`, `resolve_owner` | 1 |
| `fetch_product_page` | 5 |
| `get_playbook`, `get_search_log`, `lookup_classes`, failed calls | 0 |

Typical cost of one piece of work, measured on our benchmark: a status check 1 credit; a trademark knockout search ≈ 14; a design-patent comparison ≈ 25; an FTO screening of a product 120–450. Larger plans and extra credits: contact zhiyuanren@uselawless.com.

## Benchmark (updated 2026-10-01)

Same agent (Claude Sonnet 5.5 in Claude Code), same 60 US patent and trademark questions, graded blind against official USPTO sources, scaled to 100: **89.1 with Priorbit vs 82.4 with web search only**; Priorbit better on 40 of 60 questions. The gap grows with difficulty (+2.6 easy, +5.6 medium, +13.2 hard). Largest gains: similar-trademark search, identifying the seller behind a listing, brand-to-owner tracing. Not yet improved: FTO screening. Details: https://uselawless.com/#s-bench
